AAAA records map a name to IPv6 addresses, just as A records do for IPv4. Many UK broadband providers now hand out IPv6, so a home server can often be reached directly over IPv6 even behind carrier‑grade NAT.
Watch out for
- An AAAA record pointing at an address that no longer belongs to you. Browsers prefer IPv6 and will try it first.
- Firewalls that allow IPv4 traffic but block IPv6. Your router may need its own IPv6 rule.
