dnsHow CNAME records work
A CNAME makes one name an alias of another. When someone looks up www.example.com, their resolver follows the CNAME to, say, cname.vercel-dns.com and uses that name’s addresses.
Rules worth knowing
- A name with a CNAME cannot hold any other record – no MX, no TXT.
- A bare domain (the zone apex) cannot normally use a CNAME. Use A/AAAA records or your provider’s ALIAS/flattening feature.
- Point the CNAME at exactly the target your host gives you, including any project‑specific prefix.
