SRV record lookup

SRV records point a service to a host and port. Enter the full service name, for example _minecraft._tcp.example.com.

SRV format

Each record has a priority, a weight, a port and a target. The name always starts with the service and protocol, such as _minecraft._tcp, _sip._udp or _imaps._tcp.

Popular uses

Minecraft Java – lets players join play.example.com while the server runs on a non‑standard port. Test it with the Minecraft server checker.
Email autoconfiguration – _submission._tcp, _imaps._tcp.
VoIP and chat – _sip._tcp, _xmpp-client._tcp.

Frequently asked questions

Can an SRV target be a CNAME?

It should not be. Point the target at a host name with its own A or AAAA record.

Does Minecraft Bedrock use SRV?

No. SRV records only work for Minecraft Java Edition. Bedrock players must enter the port by hand.
